VOLUNTEERING is fun! And SO rewarding! Donating your time, talents, and resources is so fulfilling and SO needed! With BLtR, you could:

  1. Help prepare books for distribution to students—counting, sorting, putting students’ names in the books.

  2. Help hand out books to students and read to them on distribution day.

  3. Arrange one-on-one reading with students.

  4. Donate financially.

  5. Or tell us how/when you would like to volunteer

One of the easiest ways to volunteer involves #1 above—preparing books for distribution. We gather a small group at the school and spend 2-3 hours counting, stamping each book with a “this book belongs to” BLtR stamp, and then writing the students’ first name in each book. For many of the students, these personalized books will be their very first!

OUR NEXT “book prep” get together will be at Capitol View, with date and time yet to be determined.

One of the most rewarding volunteer experiences is actually reading to students (or having the student read to you! This one-on-one experience is so helpful. Not only does it assist in increasing reading proficiency, it also raises the student’s confidence level that he or she REALLY CAN READ!

Volunteering to read at a DMPS school involves completing a background check and receiving a clear response. No cost to you. Background checks through DMPS are good for five years. Online application takes 10-15 minutes. Simply go to:

www.dmschools.org/volunteer/online-volunteer-application/

Once you have received an “all clear” email from DMPS, email us at
building.lives.through.reading@gmail.com.

And we will get you started doing any or all of the tasks outlined above!
